Movie review – The Crow

This month’s movie is The Crow.

c1On Devil’s Night, musician Eric Draven and his fiancĂ©e are killed by a group of thugs. One year later Eric comes back to life, and with the aid of a mystical crow, takes revenge on the gang and their leader.

c2Cooper enjoyed this movie. She was happy to see the bad guys get their just deserts.

c3Cooper thinks that crows are pretty badass. Not as badass as budgies, though.

Movie review – Birders: The Central Park Effect

This month’s movie is Birders: The Central Park Effect.

bThis documentary follows a group of birdwatchers as they observe the many different species of birds who migrate through Central Park.

b2Cooper enjoyed looking at the many types of birds.

b1She is partial to blue birds…

b3Cooper enjoyed the movie, even though there weren’t any budgies in it.

Movie review – Taken 2

This month’s movie is Taken 2.

takenaWhile traveling in Istanbul, retired CIA operative Bryan Mills and his wife are kidnapped by the family of the villains he defeated in Taken. Using his “particular set of skills” he must save himself and his family.

takenbCooper’s favorite parts of the movie were the two scenes with the budgies. The budgies are the true heroes of the movie – by following the sound of their chirps, Mills is able to find the building in which his wife is held captive.

Movie review – What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

This month’s movie is What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

bjane1What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? The former child star grew up to be a crazy alcoholic has-been who terrorizes her wheelchair bound ex-movie star sister.

bjane2Cooper thought this movie was a bit of campy, creepy fun. When the star of the movie appeared, she was a little nervous for its fate.

bjane3And rightly so.

bjane4Blanche Hudson doll, complete with “din-din”, by Susan Mitchell.

Movie review – The Life of Birds

This month’s movie is The Life of Birds.

l1The Life of Birds is a 10 episode BBC documentary presented by the wonderful David Attenborough. The series travels the globe and explores the many facets of bird life. Flight, gathering food, communication, mating and rearing offspring and survival are just some of the topics discussed in this informative and entertaining series. Cooper was not allowed to watch the somewhat disturbing “Meat Eaters” episode in case it would give her nightmares.

l2Cooper absolutely loved this series. She was thrilled when they focused on the budgerigar and it’s fluorescent cheek patches and feet.

l3And this budgie quoted Hamlet. Cooper was disappointed though, that the budgies only appeared in only 45 seconds of this ten hour series. Especially because budgies are so fascinating. Perhaps one day there will be a BBC series on the life of budgies…

Movie review – Bye Bye Birdie

This month’s movie is Bye Bye Birdie.

bbb1Cooper was not happy with this movie. Bye Bye Birdie is not about birds at all – it is about people. Who cares! But there was plenty of music and singing, which Cooper likes. One of the songs even mentions a hummingbird and a nightingale.

bbb2Cooper thought the brief cameos by a pigeon and a woodpecker were the highlights of this rather disappointing film.

Movie review – Mr. Popper’s Penguins

This month’s movie is Mr. Popper’s Penguins

popperMr. Popper’s Penguins is about a workaholic in New York City who inherits a penguin (he acquires even more penguins when trying to return the first one). While the penguins interfere with his job, they bring him closer to his estranged family.

pop2Cooper’s favorite parts of the movie were when the penguins slide down the aisle of the Guggenheim museum and when Captain (a penguin) flies with the help of a kite. She also liked that the boy Mr. Popper’s daughter has a crush on was named “Cooper” (even though Cooper is a girl’s/budgie’s name).

Dewey’s favorite parts of the movie were when the penguins pooped.

Ozzie thought Mr. Popper’s Parakeets would have made a better movie.

Movie review – Bill and Coo

This month’s movie is Bill and Coo.

Bill and Coo (made in 1948) is a cute little movie about a small town made up of birds. When the “Black Menace” (a crow) terrorizes the town, it is up to Bill (a lovebird) to save his sweetie, Coo, and the rest of the townfolk (or townflock, as it were).

Cooper thought this movie was amazing. She loved all the stunts that the birds performed. She especially liked that there were so many budgies in the film.

This little budgie was her favorite.

Movie review – Mars Attacks!

This month’s movie is Mars Attacks!

In Mars Attacks! flying saucers land on Earth, but do the martians come in peace? Hardly. This alien invasion movie is humorous and quirky, and Cooper loved it. Her favorite part of the film was the exploding budgie.

Now she wants to go to Hollywood to be a stuntbudgie.

Movie review – Fly Away Home

This month’s movie was Fly Away Home.

Fly Away Home tells the story of a father and daughter who rescue a flock of orphaned geese and with the use of ultralight aircraft, teach them how to migrate south for the winter. Along the way, they must battle an evil game warden, evil land developers, evil hunters and evil fog.

Cooper really enjoyed this movie and highly recommends it. The story (based on real events) was captivating and uplifting. The goslings were adorable, and now she wants one as a pet. Sigh.
