365 Days of Harvey

One year ago today we brought home this little fellow.10And here he is today: hvy15anniYep – he looks as comfortable with the camera as he did a year ago. Harvey still has not stepped up. His previous owners must have really traumatized him. He will put one foot on my finger. But that’s it. I know one day the little light bulb will go off and he’ll step up, so we keep trying.

Harvey loves Lera and they are fun to watch as they groom each other. He’s a good eater and is very chatty when the lights go out. His toenails grow quickly and instead of taking him somewhere to get them clipped, we did it ourselves. He handled it like a champ.

Happy anniversary Harvey – we love you!

365 days of Emmy

One year ago today we brought home this adorable budgie. nb2We found her on Craigslist. She was a bundle of energy. Lots of climbing of the cage walls, rolling around on the bottom of the cage, twisting and turning upside down – a little acrobat. Unfortunately, she was also terrified of us and would flip out whenever we got near her. It took months to get her used to my hand being in the cage. And even longer to get her to step up. Today she will step up, but will hop off if we move our hands. We’ve only managed to get her out of the cage on our fingers on a few occasions. She’s still a work in progress…e1Emmy is our biggest budgie (I think she has some English budgie in her). She’s so soft and fluffy. I love her whipped cream tummy and the fact that she has one white cheek. She’s also a funny little nut. Except at bedtime, when she chases the other budgies. We’re not sure if she’s afraid of the dark, or just wants to be rightnext to the other budgies. e2Here she is with her boyfriend Ozzie (Emmers and Ozzers) – who puts up with her shenanigans.

Happy Anniversary Emmy – we love you!

Turkey Day*

Today is also the second anniversary of Cooper’s Corner – so the budgies had two reasons to celebrate.

deweyoatDewey started with an appetizer of oats (his favorite). Yum!

sFirst course was a salad.

o1The main course was Momma Bird’s Caribbean Loaf Birdie Bread (with a side of grated carrot). Ozzie digs in.

a1Alfie LOVED the bread.

a2He went back for a second helping.

a3And a third helping. He needs to work on his table manners, though. We don’t get in our food to eat it, Alfie.

mPlease pass the millet!

dThe budgies had fresh Granny Smith apple slices for dessert.

thanks2Happy Thanksgiving!

*Cooper wanted it to be called “Budgie Day” until she found out what happens to the turkeys.
