House Hunters hh1Mid-century Modern vs. Rustic Ranch in San Diego (Season 113, Episode 5).hh2Two little budgies (and their humans, self-confessed “bird people” Skip and Ashley) are looking for a new home in San Diego. Skip would like a home with a view, air conditioning and a 2 car garage. Ashley wants a gas stove and a laundry room. Skip does not want a fixer upper, but Ashley is fine with doing some work on the house. The couple look at three homes before deciding on the one they will buy.hh3The couple does not get everything they’re looking for (no gas stove top, no garage, no working AC). But they did get the price of the house down and are happy with their new home. Ashley’s favorite part of the house is the living room, where she can look out at the sun room and watch the birds. Skip is thrilled with his yard with a view. He hopes to get a dog and tells the budgies that they will be the “perfect snack”. Yikes!

Gangster Sam comes up with an alibi so he can murder his ex-girlfriend. His plan is to appear as if he is playing a poker game with his friend Barney. Of course, the plan backfires. Barney accidentally shoots himself and Sam is arrested for murder. But who cares! It’s all about Edgar, Sam’s budgie, who appears at the very beginning of the episode. Full episode here.

Mobster Louis finds out from a private investigator that his wife, Marion, is cheating on him. He hires a hit man, Harry, to murder her. Of course, the plan backfires when Louis is killed instead. Turns out Harry is the one who Marion is having an affair with. But who cares! It’s all about the pair of budgies that Louis was going to give to Marion (who loves birds). Full episode here.

Jack and Chrissy compete in doing favors for Janet hoping to win them. But who cares?! It’s all about Mr. Roper’s parakeet. Mr. Roper thinks his male parakeet needs a female companion. The Ropers have an anniversary coming up, so Mr. Roper buys a female parakeet as a gift for Mrs. Roper (what a wonderful gift!). He entrusts the roommates to care for the parakeet so that it will be a surprise. Of course, hijinks and hilarity ensue.

When Gracie sees the bird, she thinks it’s her anniversary present.  Believing the budgie to be sad in its cage, she sets it free.

When Gracie realizes her mistake, she replaces the bird with another budgie from the pet store. Then Nancy returns. George, not knowing the bird is the “real” Nancy, lets it go. Eventually, everything is straightened out and Mr. Vanderlip and his precious Nancy are reunited.gg2Full episode here.

Because of the fall, Bobby has developed a fear of heights. The family tries to help him over his acrophobia with stilts, a trampoline and even a hiking trip. But nothing works…3Until Tiger (the family dog) chases Peter’s parakeet out the window. Peter overcomes his fear and climbs up on his swing set to get his parakeet out of a tree. Once again, a parakeet saves the day!4Bobby’s bird is never given a name, and this is its only appearance on the series. A shame, as it is clearly the best of the bunch.

Turtles Tommy and Jimmy, Hopalong the frog, goldfish Mildred and Charles, and the stars of the episode – parakeets Alice and Phil. When Little Ricky brings home a puppy, the Ricardos try to tell him they can’t keep it. But the puppy is just too cute to give up. Unfortunately, little Fred is also too noisy. His barking is disruptive, so he must go. Unable to get rid of the pup, Lucy tries to hide him from landlord Fred and a grouchy new tenant. Hilarity ensues.

I Dream of Jeannie.jeannie1Never Try to Outsmart a Jeannie: Season 1 (episode 19).jeannie2Tony must go on a trip to Rome. Jeannie wants to come along, but Tony says no. After some scheming, Tony relents. Jeannie can come along, but only if she can obtain a passport without magic.

Roger Healey tells Tony he’ll look after things while he is gone. He’ll check the mail, wash the car and look after Seymour the parakeet (the parakeet is really Roger’s). What Roger really wants is access to Jeannie and her magic. He has plans for  new furniture, golf clubs, a boat and a tv. While Seymour’s scene is brief, he is definitely the star of the show.

Bewitched.bewitched1Ling Ling: season 1 (episode 21)bew2Samantha turns a Siamese cat into a model for Darrin’s new campaign. Of course, hilarity ensues. But who cares!  It’s all about Tweety the parakeet. Mrs. Kravitz, the neighborhood busybody (who can’t be all that bad – she has a budgie) puts Tweety out for a sun bath. When she finds an empty cage, she thinks that Tweety may have become a cat snack. Luckily, Tweety just flew away. With Samantha’s help, Tweety flies back into her cage, and all is well.
