He rose to prominence as lead singer of the band <a title=\"Black Sabbath\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Black_Sabbath\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Black Sabbath<\/span><\/a>, whose dark and hard sound helped spawn the heavy metal genre. Due to Sabbath&#8217;s style, Osbourne became known as the &#8220;Prince of Darkness&#8221;.
