It has its ups and downs. One of the downs is leaving her three legged dog, Maty, at home. So Mimi is excited when it&#8217;s &#8220;bring your pet to school day&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>One of the pets, parakeet C.C., flies out of an open window after being startled by one of the students. Mimi and Maty are quick to help and use their ingenuity and knowledge of parakeets to find C.C. <a href=\"http:\/\/cooperscorner.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/22.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9109\" src=\"http:\/\/cooperscorner.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/22.jpg\" alt=\"2\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cooperscorner.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/22.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/cooperscorner.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/22-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cooperscorner.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/22-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a>Cooper loved this book. And not just because it featured a blue budgie&#8230; She thought the illustrations (by Alli Arnold) were cute. She liked the story Mimi&#8217;s mother told about her pet parakeet (flying into a toilet!) and the parakeet facts that Mimi uses to find C.C.<\/p>\n<p>The end of the book has photos of the real Mimi (the author&#8217;s daughter) and Maty. Mimi created the site <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freekibble.com\/\">Freekibble<\/a>, which feeds meals to homeless pets at shelters across the country.
