What’s in the box?

Don’t worry, Brad. It’s just a little budgie.

Meet our new little budgie. He doesn’t have a name yet. I picked him up at the animal shelter today. He had been attacked by a cat. Yikes! A good Samaritan found him and called the shelter to pick him up. We have no idea where he originally came from (he has no leg band). His injuries are almost healed and he’s almost as good as new. He’s in a separate cage and will be in quarantine in a different room than Cooper and Dewey for at least 30 days.

I love him already.

  1. OMG! So exciting! Does he have a name yet? Are you going to change it? You should name him ADAM! Is he the same kind of budgie as Cooper and Dewey? He looks more exotic. Congratulations Mom & Dad!!! 😀

    • He doesn’t have a name yet. I asked the humane society people, and they said the person who found him wasn’t the owner. I was thinking of naming him Roy (since Roy of Siegfried and Roy was also attacked by a cat). But he doesn’t look like a Roy. So we’ll see – the name needs to fit his little personality.

He’s so tiny! But he’s settling into his cage and investigating his toys : ).

  2. He seems calmer and more inquisitive than either Cooper or Dewey were when we first got them. Of course, they were younger and living in a flock of birds. This little guy has been alone and probably lived with a family before us.

After reading about how birds are mistreated, I feel like we’re obligated to rescue a couple. Welcome to the flock little guy, you’re going to have a good time with us. If Cooper lets you.

  3. OMG, y’all are bird hoarders! But giant high-fives for rescuing the poor little guy. Imagine how scary that was for him. Glad he’s going to be okay and hopefully Dewey and Cooper will welcome him to the flock.

  4. I suppose “Catfood” would be an inappropriate name?

Yay for rescuing the cute nameless budgie! You are buckets full of awesome.

Why does he need to be quarantined for 30 days? I think I remember you doing something similar with Dewey? Germs? Or just so they can get used to each other?

    • Yes, we quarantined Dewey, too. It’s in case they are carrying any diseases or illnesses. The new guy was cleared to go home from the shelter’s vet, but since he was in the wild, who knows if he might have picked something up. Better safe than sorry.

After quarantining we’ll see how the three get along…

  5. Cute lil guy.

First was Cooper, then came Dewey…so I think it’s obvious, the third bird’s name should begin with an E. (C, D, E…see?)

I recommend Eli. Or Elliott. If you want something a bit more gender neutral, you could go with Eggplant. But since he’s not purple, I’d say probably not.

    HUGS…

  6. I don’t know how I missed this! So happy for you and for your new budgie. We rescued 2 this year and it has been wonderful. I was really scared but now they are all happy to be together and we never had any fights at all.
