  1. Ah I only wish I could get my precious keets to eat some veggies and fruits. It’s worrying me a bit that they won’t eat anything but seeds and millets. ;~;

    • For the longest time mine wouldn’t eat anything but romaine lettuce. Ozzie was the first to try different foods, and the rest followed suit. I would start with lettuce. Mine also like carrots and raw zucchini (grated). They also nibble on broccoli florets. I give them fruit, too – but they’re not really into it. Try to give them organic, if you can.

      Just keep trying! Persistence pays off : ).

  2. That’s fantastic! I’ve been struggling to get my budgies weight down. Do you only have veggies available? How much seed? I’ve followed the vets advice, but it doesn’t seem to help. Please share your secret.

    • I used to keep the seed dishes full and always in the cage, but then couldn’t control how much Cooper (the only budgie who is overweight) was eating. So now we separate her at feeding time and put the seed dishes in only at feeding time for all the birds. It’s a bit of a pain, I have to admit. But worth it so that Cooper stays healthy.

      I usually always have pellets in the cage (Harrison’s adult lifetime super fine). The budgies started eating that when I took out the seed dishes. Cooper just started throwing them out of the dish, so I have to figure out a way around that.

      Cooper gets about 2 to 3 teaspoons of seed a day. I’ve read on various sites that a budgie should have 1.5 to 2 level teaspoons of seed a day. Of course, that depends on the activity level and size of your budgie. Our budgies get fresh fruit and veggies, too. As much as they want. There’s lots of helpful info on the internet about what to feed your budgie. I’m not an expert – so keep that in mind.

      Cooper gets lots of flight time, too. I think that helps with her weight loss. She still has a few grams to go…

      • Thanks so much for the info. No worries about being an expert I usually clear things with their avian vet. I’ve been wrong so many times from reading the conflicting info I know better now. With such success I was curious about quantities and how you get them to eat veggies. I hear you about the extra work. I think most people don’t realize how much effort it takes to keep the little guys healthy and happy.
