Movie review – The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill

This month’s movie was The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill.

The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill is a documentary about a flock of wild parrots in San Francisco and their interaction with  Mark Bittner, a homeless street musician who cares for the birds.

Cooper loved this movie. She enjoyed hearing the stories about Connor, Mingus, Tupelo, Picasso, Sophie, etc. She laughed, she cried and she chirped.

Her favorite bird was Smitty, a blue budgie who made a brief appearance in the movie. Cooper thinks he should have been the film’s star.

Movie review – Barbarella

This month’s movie was Barbarella.

This movie, based on a French comic strip, is about the adventures of Barbarella. Barbarella (played by Jane Fonda) is sent to the planet Tau Ceti to retrieve the evil Doctor Durand Durand. Cooper thought this movie was ridiculous, but loved all the costume changes. Cooper’s favorite scene was when Barbarella was put in a cage to be pecked to death by birds.

Movie review – A Bird of the Air

This month’s movie was A Bird of the Air.

This movie was about a loner named Lyman whose life changes when a lost yellow naped parrot flies in through his window. With the help of a quirky librarian named Fiona, he tries to track down the owner of the bird. Along the way Lyman opens up and falls in love.

Based on the cover, Cooper thought this movie would be a romantic comedy – but it had some dark moments. It was amusing, but Cooper would have liked to see more parrot and less people.

Movie Review: Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole

This month’s movie was Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole.

This movie is about a young barn owl named Soren who is kidnapped by the “Pure Ones” (evil owls). Soren and his new-found friends band together with the legendary Guardians (good guy owls) to save all of owlkind.

Cooper enjoyed the flight scenes in the movie, but thought that the baby owl coughing up a mouse pellet was disgusting. Even though Cooper isn’t even  a year old, he is amazed at what CGI can accomplish these days. The detail in the feathers, background and special effects was outstanding. And now he wants a cool metal warrior helmet like the owls wore in battle.

Movie Review: Paulie

This month’s movie was Paulie.

Paulie is about a blue-crowned conure who is separated from the little girl who owns him. He has many adventures as he makes his way across the country to find her.

Cooper thought the birds(s) who portrayed Paulie did an excellent job, but felt Paulie’s “voice” (he was voiced by a human) was annoying. Also, there were no budgies in the movie. Overall, though, Cooper enjoyed himself and would recommend Paulie to all his birdie friends.
