This month’s book is I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, by Maya Angelou.I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is the autobiography of the early years of poet and author Maya Angelou. The book is named for the caged-bird image that Lawrence Dunbar used in his poem “Sympathy.” Angelou describes her childhood growing up in Stamps, Arkansas and teen years in California. Her experiences describe the indignity and injustice that African Americans experienced in the 1930s and ’40s. Though she suffers many hardships, Angelou finds the strength and courage to overcome them.
Cooper thought this book was powerful and beautifully written. Though she was disappointed that the book wasn’t about a bird, she would recommend reading this important memoir of survival and hope.
Luigi lives with Aluz in Portugal. Luigi’s flock includes lovebird Penguin (who has laid an egg since we last saw “him”)! Luigi was my Christmas chick, he hatched on December 27th, 2013.He has a really sweet temperament, he makes sure to show us how happy he is on a daily basis, his joyfulness is very contagious.
Luigi is a very funny and talented boy, besides having learnt a few words I taught him as well as some others that he picked from my other budgie talker, Leonel, he also knows the lovebird language and mimics my dog’s barking quite well. Luigi loves flying and landing on top of my head, his favorite toy is a wooden swing and during out of cage time likes to play with a plastic two-headed dragon.
His favorite treats are spinach leaves, carrot and apple slices.
