Cooper didn’t want to wear her sombrero, so she did a hat dance instead.
This video shows the first 30 days of a budgie chick. It’s amazing how quickly they transform from a plucked chicken into a beautiful budgie.
This month’s book is How to Heal a Broken Wing by Bob Graham.
On a busy city street, only Will notices a wounded pigeon on the ground. He and his mother pick it up and take it home. Will, his mother and father gently wrap the bird’s broken wing. With the family’s tender care, the days pass and the pigeon heals.
Cooper loved this simple, yet powerful story. She wishes more people were like Will. She thought the illustrations were beautiful and did a wonderful job rounding out the spare text. Her favorite part of the book was when the pigeon was released back in to the wild. And she thought the bird poop on the city statues was amusing.
Cooper highly recommends this book – it’s message of being aware and caring for nature is good for young and old alike.
Sunny has been laying eggs. This is her 6th (we’re currently at 7).
It was 12 days between egg 1 and 2. Then they started coming every other day, with 3 days between the last two. She’s been laying at night or in the wee hours of the morning – and from the perch, so they crack when they hit the cage grate. The egg pictured has a crack on the bottom.
Sunny hasn’t been paying attention to the eggs, which is a good thing. We just take them out when we see them. We’re going to rearrange the cage again (and we’ve been limiting their daylight). Hopefully, there will be no more eggs. It’s been a crazy Spring!
*Thanks to Karon (Bert and Ernie’s human) for the title/Sunny’s new nickname : ).
