Gangster Sam comes up with an alibi so he can murder his ex-girlfriend. His plan is to appear as if he is playing a poker game with his friend Barney. Of course, the plan backfires. Barney accidentally shoots himself and Sam is arrested for murder. But who cares! It’s all about Edgar, Sam’s budgie, who appears at the very beginning of the episode. Full episode here.
The Better Bargain (Season 2, Episode 11).
Mobster Louis finds out from a private investigator that his wife, Marion, is cheating on him. He hires a hit man, Harry, to murder her. Of course, the plan backfires when Louis is killed instead. Turns out Harry is the one who Marion is having an affair with. But who cares! It’s all about the pair of budgies that Louis was going to give to Marion (who loves birds). Full episode here.

Bird Song (Season 2, Episode 24).
Janet has two tickets to the Frank Sinatra concert, but doesn’t want them. Jack and Chrissy compete in doing favors for Janet hoping to win them. But who cares?! It’s all about Mr. Roper’s parakeet. Mr. Roper thinks his male parakeet needs a female companion. The Ropers have an anniversary coming up, so Mr. Roper buys a female parakeet as a gift for Mrs. Roper (what a wonderful gift!). He entrusts the roommates to care for the parakeet so that it will be a surprise. Of course, hijinks and hilarity ensue.

Vanderlip Leaves His Parakeet With George (Season 5, Episode 19).
Mr. Vanderlip asks George to watch his budgie, Nancy, while he goes to San Francisco for a bankers convention. When Gracie sees the bird, she thinks it’s her anniversary present. Believing the budgie to be sad in its cage, she sets it free.
When Gracie realizes her mistake, she replaces the bird with another budgie from the pet store. Then Nancy returns. George, not knowing the bird is the “real” Nancy, lets it go. Eventually, everything is straightened out and Mr. Vanderlip and his precious Nancy are reunited.
