Cooper’s Book Report
This month’s book is My Name Is Pipsqueak! What’s Your Name? My True Story as told by Pipsqueak! the budgie and Cheri McAleese.
This is the story (so far) of Pipsqueak! the budgie. Pipsqueak! begins his story with his days at the pet store. He is brought home by Mommy, becomes a fantastic talker, plays games, performs tricks and brightens the lives of all who meet him. The book is told in Pipsqueak!’s voice and does a great job portraying how life looks from the budgie point of view. The appendix at the end has some great tips on how to care for (feeding, training, dealing with the occasional budgie nip) and bond with your budgie.
Cooper enjoyed this book. She thought Pipsqueak! is a terrific ambassador and spokesbird for budgies. She agrees with Pipsqueak! that budgies are brilliant birds and are capable of speaking in context (not just mimicry). Cooper’s favorite part of the book was when Pipsqueak! did loop the loops, as she is an expert at loop the loops, too.

Awesome Aviaries
The Villa Borghese Aviary in Rome.
photo by judy h on flickr.
The aviary was built at the start of the 17th century and at one time housed rare birds (such as peacocks, swans and ostriches). The aviary is located in the Villa Borghese Gardens, part of the former private estate of the Borghese Family (and now public park).

Inko Colors
This is a very cute video about a flock of budgies who, with some help from some sparrows, help a lost budgie find his way home.
(Translation by bird with a character)
Cooper loved this little story. She liked that lots of budgie colors were represented, and hopes that this flock of budgies will have more adventures to share.

Thanks to Sondra for finding this little gem!
Movie Review
This month’s movie is The Secret Life of Pets.
In The Secret Lives of Pets, a group of pets has a wild adventure in the city while they’re owners are at work.
Max, a terrier, is not too happy when his owner brings home a new dog, Duke. In his efforts to rid himself of his new housemate, the two dogs end up without their collars and are captured by animal control.
With the help of fellow pets and the “flushed” pets, Max and Duke become friends and find their way back home. But who cares! It’s all about Sweet Pea, the little green and yellow budgie. While Sweet Pea doesn’t have any dialogue (other than some chirps and tweets) and has only two featured scenes (at the beginning and the end of the movie), he lights up the screen – and leaves us wanting more. Cooper enjoyed this movie, and is hoping that Sweet Pea will have a spin-off. A budgie movie is long overdue!
