730 Days of Felix
Two years ago, we brought home a pale blue budgie (we found him on Craigslist).

Felix is such a handsome boy. He adores Lera and is her little shadow. He still makes time to mate with Cooper, though -he’s definitely a ladies’ man. Felix still nips on occasion, but he’s more accepting of kisses. He loves bath time and the spritzer, and is usually the first one out of the cage when the door opens. He’s a good budgie (aside from the occasional sparring with Ozzie) and we love him. Happy anniversary Felix!

Little Ricky Gets A Dog: Season 6 (episode 14).
Little Ricky has lots of pets. Turtles Tommy and Jimmy, Hopalong the frog, goldfish Mildred and Charles, and the stars of the episode – parakeets Alice and Phil. When Little Ricky brings home a puppy, the Ricardos try to tell him they can’t keep it. But the puppy is just too cute to give up. Unfortunately, little Fred is also too noisy. His barking is disruptive, so he must go. Unable to get rid of the pup, Lucy tries to hide him from landlord Fred and a grouchy new tenant. Hilarity ensues.

Cooper’s Book Report
This month’s book is Birdology by Sy Montgomery.
In Birdology, author and naturalist Sy Montgomery shines a light on the bird world. The book is divided into segments: chickens, cassowaries, hummingbirds, hawks, pigeons, parrots and crows. Montgomery combines science and storytelling in a way that makes for an entertaining read. Birdology not only shows us what fascinating creatures birds are, but reminds us how important they are to our world.
Cooper loved this book. She thought the author accurately portrayed the emotions, intelligence and abilities of her feathered friends. Her favorite part of the book was Montgomery’s green budgie, Jerry. He makes an appearance in the introduction. “Among the many things he showed me was that birds stir our souls in ways that change our lives.” Cooper thinks the author should have included a chapter about budgies. But maybe it would have been too difficult to cram the wonder of budgies into just one chapter. Surely, it would take an entire book for that. Budgieology…

Meet Clarabelle!
Clarabelle lives in North Dakota with Sarah.
Her favorite toy is a blue ball that jingles. She loves to push it around and chase after it on the floor.
Clarabelle’s favorite treat is either millet or sweet corn. She also has recently developed a liking to fried eggs, to my surprise ☺.
Clarabelle loves attention from her human family; she gets so excited when we whistle to her or talk to her in a happy, excited voice. She loves being out of her cage to fly around where she pleases (under human supervision, of course).
Clarabelle loves to explore her surroundings and find new things to play with.
Clarabelle loves phones. She learned to copy the ring of my mom’s cell phone and when she hears it go off, she starts chirping like crazy! She also knows when one of her human friends is coming home; she starts chirping really loudly when she hears the front door open.
Clarabelle has a page on facebook. And her own website – chock full of cute photos and stories.
Awesome Aviaries
We have passes to the zoo. And are finally using them! The San Diego Zoo has some awesome aviaries.
The Scripps Aviary and the Owens Aviary are the big ones.
So many types of birds to see.
Not many parrots – but we did see a female eclectus and and African grey.
The zoo also has lots of smaller aviaries throughout.
We didn’t see any budgies yet, but we haven’t been to all the exhibits. Maybe next time…
Sleepy Flamingos.
Posing Peacock.
Mama duck and her ducklings. Is there anything more adorable than a duckling? Other than a budgie, that is?
“Are you my mother?” This little one came right up to Harry’s shoe.
