Ozzie – our first rescue bird. Ozzie is the one who will answer you with a chirp. He and Sunny like to play “let’s not go back in the cage.” Double trouble! But after a few rounds of “you can’t get me!”, he’ll step up and go back in (Sunny will then follow). He’s everyone’s friend and is an all around good budgie. We love you little Oz!

This month’s toy is “do it yourself”!
I took apart a kabob (or marshmallows, as we call them), and used some leather cord and plastic beads (leftovers from past toys) and strung them together to make footie toys. Instead of one toy that the budgies fight over, I have several footie toys. Everyone gets their own! 
They still squabble over the same one though. Sigh.
Ozzie’s birthday toy finally arrived in the mail. It’s the “small jellyfish” by Lucky Bird Toys.

What’s a birthday without millet? The budgies also had lettuce (an Ozzie favorite).

The budgies have new swings!
I saw them on the TalkBudgies site and had to have them for the flock. I ordered two from master swing maker Rick. 
The budgies jumped right on.
They look so cute hanging around on their rainbow swings.
Some of the budgies (Lera and Emmy) love to destroy their broccoli florets. Broccoli goes everywhere! So I changed things up by putting their food clips on the bottom of the cage (out of the poop zones). It’s a new way for the flock to eat their veggies and it contains most of the mess.

We brought Ozzie home from the animal shelter two years ago today.
We’re so lucky to have this darling little fellow as part of the family.
We’ve been having a bit of hot weather in San Diego. To beat the heat the budgies have been playing in the water.

After a swim, it’s time for some refreshing watermelon. Alfie is always the first to the food. He was more about the lettuce (as you can see from the ever present food on his beak). 
Cooper was the only one who was really into the watermelon. Yum!
Gordie, Ozzie and Cooper couldn’t wait for their food to make it into the cage.
